Bill's Status - March 5, 2001

Bill's condition has not changed much in the last two weeks.  He seems to have improved somewhat, but that is a relative statement.  He is still not able to use his left arm and left leg very much, but seems to be less groggy as the swelling in his head is reduced.  He is getting radiation every weekday and now is in the 3rd week of 6 weeks.  The radiation makes him tired, but no other side effects.  We are hoping he will be able to start chemotherapy soon.  The drug they plan to use is Temozolomide, which seems to have fewer side effects than normal chemotherapy.
Here is a website that has a good summary of the treatment:  http://brain.mgh.harvard.edu/ChemoGuide.htm

Bill was really touched by the many cards and letters he has gotten from the Flight 800 community and I would like to add my thanks as well.

He remains at the St. Mary's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown, Maryland.

For anyone who wishes to send a card, his address is:
