NY - EAST RIVER - THE BATTERY_ GOVERNORS ISLAND - Beginning on or about 2 August until approximately 6 August 1996 the M.V. CABLE QUEEN will be removing a fiber optic submarine telephone cable across the East RIver between the Battery and Governors Island. MA - OFF/SHORE - The U.S. Navy advises of daily firing exercises from 5:25 am to 7:10 pm in an area bounded by the following: 41²02.5N, 70²42W; to 41²07N, 70²22W; to 41²05N, 70²10W 41²00N, 69²55W; to 40²48N, 69²36W; to 40²30N, 69²36W; to 40²30N, 70²42W, thence to beginning. NY - HUDSON RIVER - The Coast Guard will be conducting diving operations in the Hudson River from Light 83 (Turkey Point) north from 22 July - 30 July, 1996. The location of the diving operation will change daily. All mariners are requested to contact the Coast Guard vessel on seen for further information before passing by the diving area.

NJ - LITTLE EGG INLET - Installation of approximately 30,000 feet of submarine cable/power cable will be installed from Rutgers State University Marine Field Station out through Little Egg Inlet to two Long-term Ecosystem Observatories located approximately 4.2 nautical miles offshore. Work will done 17 July - 17 August, 1996 during daylight hours. On scene will be the cable lay barge CALDWELL 395 and a tug MATTHEW C, as well as divers. Due to the nature of the cable laying operations the CALDWELL 395 will be restricted in its ability to maneuver and requires a 1000 yard safety zone. The call letters of the MATTHEW C are WV 9404 and can be reached on VHF channels 13 and 16. Mariners are advised to use caution while transitting the area.

NY - LONG ISLAND SOUND - Construction will be done to repair the main bridge fenders along the main navigation channel on the Tappan Zee Bridge. On scene will be derricks, barges and work boats. Work will be done 30 July - 4 October, 1996. Mariners are advised to use caution while transitting the area.

NY - SHEEPSHEAD BAY - Pier construction will be done in position 42²35N, 073²56W in Sheepshead Bay. Work will begin 22 July 1996 and will continue for approximately 6 weeks, Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM. On scene will be two barges. VHF channels 13 and 16 will be monitored. Mariners are advised to use caution while transitting the area.

NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY - NEW YORK HARBOR - NEWARK BAY - HACKENSACK RIVER - Fender Repair - Repairs to the fender system of the Route 80 highway bridge across Hackensack River at mile 15.2 will commence on or about 15 July 1996 through 14 April 1997. A 35ft X 160ft barge will be operating on the east side of the channel, Monday through Friday between 0700 ando 1530. Mariners requiring the full horizontal clearance can call (201) 517-5515 or (201) 517-5513 three hours in advance to have the barge move out of the navigable channel. Mariners are advised to reduce wake and exercise caution when transiting the area.
